This is the symbol of Saint Jude, not to be confused with Judas Iscariot whose sheild is always blank. Jude also bears the name of Thaddeus of Lebbaeus. The ship on his shield is a sign of mission voyages made for Christ. Other symbols for Saint Jude include the inverted cross, a spear with a club, and loaves with a fish. The color of the shield is usually red, the ship is in gold. The sails and ropes are usually shown in silver. The day of Saint Jude is October 28. Larger Version - 434 x 556, 27.51K jude.jpg |

This shield is the symbol of Saint Matthew (Levi) the Apostle. Since he was a tax collector when Jesus called him, three money bags are assigned as his symbol. Other symbols for Saint Matthew are a money chest and a battle axe. The color of his shield is usually shown as white with a red outline. The money bags are usually shown in blue or gold. This shield is the symbol of Saint Paul. He has assigned to him the image of a sword, for he was a persecutor of the Church. The book indicates his conversion into the greatest preacher of the Church. The great change in Saint Pauls shows itself in that he afterward speaks of the Word of God as the Sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). His shield is usually shown in red, the book in white with red letters. The sword is usually shown in gold. Saint Paul's day is January 25. Larger Version - 424 x 528, 36K paul.gif |
